A suspension to allow emergency services to intervene

A fire was reported in a storage area for grass, straw and manure located at the rear of the racecourse, away from the public.

The firefighters present as part of the safety arrangements put in place by the organiser immediately intervened to secure the area. To allow them to act in the best possible conditions and without exposing the response teams, the show was suspended.

Information appropriate to the situation

During this suspension, we informed the public of the incident without immediately specifying its nature. Information was still being assessed and the emergency services had not requested any evacuation.

Our priority was to keep the audience calm while allowing the firefighters to intervene effectively.

After around 50 minutes of suspension and once safety conditions had been confirmed by the emergency services, the event was able to resume.

No injuries and extended monitoring

The incident caused no injuries. Monitoring and cooling of the area continued through the night to rule out any risk of the fire reigniting.

To date, the precise cause of the fire has not been established.

A review underway

A review is underway with the racecourse management and the emergency services to assess improvements that could be made to access and intervention conditions in this part of the site.

We sincerely thank the firefighters for their intervention, all the teams involved, as well as the public for their calm and patience during this suspension.
